The history of the Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin house begins in 1772 and is marked by a woman.
Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, Madame Veuve Clicquot, who was widowed at the age of 27 in 1805 when she took over the family business. In 1810 she produced the first recorded dated Champagne in the region. The house is now part of the LVMH Group.
